After announcing that they’ll be taking Lexus pomp and power to take to the waters with the Lexus Sport Yacht concept, the luxury automaker now takes to the skies with the help of some movie magic.
Lexus partered with Paris-based film studio EuropaCorp late last year in order to design a single-seat pursuit craft that will appear in the Luc Besson movie ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’.
Called the Skjet, the movie producers wanted it to be inspired by real world design and yet look appropriate for the movie that is set 700 years into the future.
Experts in futuristic-looking automotive design, Lexus Chief Engineer Takeaki Kato and the Lexus design used imaginative technologies and contemporary design including the brand’s signature spindle grille and a headlight design similar to that of the new Lexus LC coupe.
“For this partnership we were looking for a brand that’s pioneering in innovation and technology, and which is focused on the future more than the past,” said Besson who is also the founder of EuropaCorp.
“As fans of film and Luc Besson’s work, Lexus is privileged to bring the director’s dream to life. We enjoyed the challenge of bringing Lexus’s design philosophy and technology innovations to this project. We look forward to developing our partnership with EuropaCorp as we strive to give audiences the most amazing experiences imaginable in the coming years,” said David Nordstrom, Global Branding Department General Manager at Lexus.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has an international star cast that includes Cara Delevingne, Dane deHaan, Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke and Rihanna.
Dane DeHaan was on-hand for the choreographed presentation of the Skyjet that took place in Miami as part of a showcase for the luxury brand’s latest products and lifestyle activities.
